For several years, Hill Country Region Porsche Club of America has hosted two autocross events annually. Our most recent event was held on February 15, 2025, at the Travis County Expo Center. We designed a challenging, fun, and safe course for all participants.

What is Autocross?

Autocross offers a safe, low-cost, and engaging motorsport experience. Participants navigate a temporary course, delineated by traffic cones, individually against the clock. This format emphasizes car handling and driver skill over raw power, accommodating a wide range of vehicles, from everyday sedans to purpose-built race cars. Speeds are generally below highway speeds, but the tight, technical courses provide a high degree of driver engagement. Typical autocross courses range from 40 to 70 seconds in length. Autocross serves as an excellent introduction to motorsports, fostering vehicle control and promoting responsible driving habits, skills that are transferable to other forms of racing.

No special vehicle modifications are required, and tech inspections are conducted on-site to ensure safety and preparedness, unlike the shop-based inspections required for Driver Education (DE) events. Instructors are available to provide ride-alongs and guidance for novice drivers or those seeking additional support.

Autocross events are typically held on large paved surfaces, such as parking lots, airfields, or sections of existing racetracks. A new course is designed for each event, requiring drivers to learn and strategize for a unique layout. Competitors are given the opportunity to walk the course before their runs, allowing them to develop a mental map and refine their approach.
