NEW and UPDATE events are highlighted below.
REMINDER: To locate events, details, and registration information, please go to our HCR Calendar and you can find these events there with registration links.
I hope you all have had a safe and fun Halloween evening! Let’s get to it:
UPDATE 1: At our October Board meeting, the Board voted to reinstate our indoor events. Here’s the official statement from the Board:
“The Executive Committee has determined that Event Coordinators can now schedule indoor/outdoor events. HCR also recommends that members attending these events follow local COVID guidelines based on location or the venue.”
UPDATE 2: The Executive Committee of the Board recently approved a $10 non-refundable registration fee for certain events, to cover administrative event costs. Several other large regions were contacted regarding their use of this type of fee, and we found that most of them already charged a $10 fee (regions both inside and outside Zone 5). The fee is intended to cover certain expenses associated with holding our events. Here’s a couple of examples of upcoming events:
- Setting up a Rally involves expenses such as securing prizes, gas for the laying out and driving the course, etc.
- Delivering a New Member Social includes costs not fully covered by our event sponsors, such as chair/table rentals, drinks, tablecloths, etc.
The $10 fee is non-refundable and will be collected on events where registration is required through ClubRegistration.net. Please note that your registration will not be complete or confirmed until payment is made. We considered making the fee refundable, but due to last minute cancellations and “no-shows” that typically occur on all our events, the Executive Committee decided not to try and process refunds. Please be aware of this policy when you decide to sign up for one of these events.
Here’s our upcoming events, with updates in green.
Nov 3: Ladies Lunch at True Food Kitchen in The Domain
The hugely popular Ladies Lunch has the green light for November! The Luncheon will be on Wednesday, November 3rd at 11:30am at True Food Kitchen in the Domain, 11410 Century Oaks Terrace St, Austin. This is an indoor event.
Please email Michelle if you are interested in attending. She takes a headcount to ensure seating for everyone.
Nov 6: GT International Fall Car Show
It’s time again for the annual Fall classic, the GT International Car Show! This year’s car show is on Saturday, November 6 from 10:00am – 2:00pm. There will be live music, food and fun! We will have a Member’s Choice Contest, with cool prizes donated by GT International. Other marque’s will be out at the event, so let’s do our “HCR Thing” and show up in force . . . GT International would love to see us fill up their back parking lot with our Porsches!
Registration required.
Nov 11: Lunch Bunch
Location is Aviator Pizza, 4005 West Parmer Lane, Suite E, Austin. Time is 11:30am – 1:00pm.
Nov 13: Fall Autocross
Our Fall Autocross is on Saturday, November 13 at the HEB Center in Cedar Park. At the last Autocross, we had a bunch of individuals from outside of PCA that joined us. While this is great from a financial perspective, our goal is to fill up the 60-person roster with PCA members. This event is now open to the public, and will fill up quickly, so don’t delay.
Registration and event fee payment required.
Nov 18: Brewery Afternoons
Location is TBA from Greg Lee, HCR Biermeister.
Nov 20: Petrol Lounge/HCR New Members’ Social, presented by XPEL Austin
Petrol Lounge will host this event at their new location at 2631 Kramer Lane in Austin. It’s bigger and waaaay better than their former location, with lots more cool cars. XPel Austin is providing the food, and it’s fajitas! The HCR Board is also providing the drinks. This event is for all members, and especially our members who joined us in 2021. But everyone is invited. This is an indoor event.
Please note attendance is capped at 75 people, and there will be a NON-refundable $10.00 per person administration fee at registration, to help defer the cost of tables, chairs, drinks and table cloths.
Registration and $10 administrative fee payment required.
Dec 4: Hill Country Scavenger Hunt Drive
Stacey and Rich Soule have organized a pretty swell family-friendly scavenger hunt set for Saturday, December 4! Best part: you get to drive your P-Car to hunt for the scavenger items! Hint: you need a tech-savvy navigator for this event, plus a cell phone with camera to decode the clues, solve the riddles, and report your team’s finds. This is not a race or a timed event, so it’s a great time for a family road-trip while the kids decipher clues in the backseat (it’s better than hearing “Are we there yet?” over and over).
Registration and $10 administrative fee payment required.
Dec 10: Holiday Party
Our Annual Holiday Party is on the calendar again, on Friday evening, December 10. We are back out at the Village of The Hills Lakeway clubhouse, and it promises to be another great evening of fun, prizes, raffles, silent auction items, awards, and general frivolity. Once again, we ask each couple/family attending to bring an unused, unwrapped children's gift to donate to Toys for Tots program with the Lakeway Police Dept.
Registration and dinner ticket fee payment required. We will have registration opened up next week, but expect the fee will be about $50 per person, same as in the past.
Dec 11: Tech Session at Porsche Austin
The Porsche Austin Tech Session is back! The re-scheduled tech session for Hill County will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Porsche Austin will provide snacks, drinks, and door prizes.
A trio topics will be covered:
(1) an overview of popular options currently available;
(2) an illumination of the Porsche PDK dual-clutch transmission; and
(3) the history surrounding some dealer exclusive classic models.
The event is now open and attendance is capped at 60 participants, with a non-refundable $10 administrative fee per attendee. Before the event, attendees will be divided into three groups (A, B, & C) to rotate through the presentations.
If registration exceeds 60, Stacey will run a waitlist. Waivers will be required, and attendance cannot be confirmed until you verify your signature for the waiver through ClubReg.
Looking Back
Oct 28: The (EXPANDED) Return of HCR Happy Hours
Our first Happy Hours in a very long time were held last Thursday. While the South Happy Hour only had 5 attendees, most of them were from Dripping Springs. Our North Happy Hour had 10 attendees and featured 6 new members, including two that just moved here from the Peachtree (Atlanta) Region less than two weeks ago. We gave them a proper Texas welcome, and hope to see them again at the New Member Social coming up on Nov 20.
Oct 30: Tour to Belton and Beyond
Our drive yesterday turned out about 30 cars, and ended up being almost 200 miles of perfect roads out to the NE and NW of the Austin area. We were on roads that most members never knew existed, and we got that comment from several attendees who were very pleasantly surprised at the twisties on our route. We even had two guests from the Hawaii Region join us, as they were spending the week with family in Hutto after attending F1. Porsche Austin outfitted them with a new 911 Turbo for the day, just so that they had a car to drive with the rest of the HCR gang. We continued our program with having two techs from Porsche Austin go along on the drive, and we had two members who needed their assistance. Many thanks to Porsche Austin for supporting our tours!
Our objective continues to be to keep our membership up to date on what is going on in HCR, as well as PCA nationally. Please remember, our goal is to deliver events where members can choose their level of participation. We will continue to stress safe and fun events!
If any questions or comments, please let me know.
