Member Update: 11/7/21

NEW and UPDATE events are highlighted below.

REMINDER: To locate events, details, and registration information, please go to our HCR Calendar and you can find these events there with registration links.

Lots to highlight in this week’s update, so here we go:

Posting this again this week, to ensure all our members see this:

At our October Board meeting, the Board voted to reinstate our indoor events. Here’s the official statement from the Board:

“The Executive Committee has determined that Event Coordinators can now schedule indoor/outdoor events. HCR also recommends that members attending these events follow local COVID guidelines based on location or the venue.”

A NOTE ABOUT OUR SOCIAL EVENTS:

As we stand up more of our social events, we run into challenges in various locations and venues. It’s all the stuff you’ve all been hearing about on the news media outlets; everything from staff shortages to supply chain issues with food, inflation, etc. These issues impact things like availability for both indoor and outdoor areas, higher menu prices, abbreviated menus, etc. Please bear with us as our Social team continues to work through these issues with selected venues. We don’t run into them in all cases, but more and more our team is faced with some choices and dilemma’s that are different than what we’ve faced in the past. Hopefully it’s not going to become the new normal.

HCR WANTS TO SUPPORT OUR MEMBERS’ BUSINESS: CAN WE PARTNER WITH YOU?

HCR has continued to broaden our delivery of events—by location, diversity, quantity, and quality. What has become clear throughout this expansion is the need for additional resources. We recognize that our membership is comprised of talented and successful people, joined by a common denominator: the admiration, loyalty, and love of Porsche vehicles. Therefore, we’d like the opportunity to partner with our HCR community by supporting your local business. Perhaps your business is an ideal location for an HCR happy hour or luncheon, or you are a vendor for table and chair rentals, have a print shop, or offer catering? If your beloved enterprise offers any services or products that you believe would be suitable for partnership, please reach out to us and let us know.

Nov 11: Lunch Bunch

November's Lunch Bunch is Thursday, Nov 11. We will convene at the Parmer Lane location of Aviator Pizza and Drafthouse.

Aviator Pizza and Drafthouse

4005 West Parmer Lane, Suite E
 Austin, TX 78727

https://aviatorpizza.com

We will have tables outside on the covered patio. We will have the option of eating inside in the large airy high-ceiling dining room if you would rather. You will place your order either at the counter inside or you can scan the QR code on your table and place your order from your phone. The manager recommends using the counter inside because it's quicker and easier.

There is an option for your pizza that is not on the menu: you can specify your pizza with a thin crust rather than the regular crust. Regardless of your menu choice, we think you will enjoy the food. We know you will enjoy the company of your fellow Porsche enthusiasts.

We start at 11:30. No RSVP required. We hope to see a lot of you there.

Nov 13: Fall Autocross

Our Fall Autocross is on Saturday, November 13 at the HEB Center in Cedar Park. At the last Autocross, we had a bunch of individuals from outside of PCA that joined us. While this is great from a financial perspective, our goal is to fill up the 60-person roster with PCA members. This event is now full, and Alfred is working on finalizing the registrations and reduce the waitlist as much as possible.

Nov 18: Brewery Afternoons

NEW!  THE MONTHLY BREWERY VISIT IS NOW A NEW HAPPY HOUR EVENT EVERY THIRD THURSDAY OF THE MONTH!  SO, IF YOU NEED A THURSDAY PICK ME UP OR CHANCE TO TALK PORSCHE WITH A FELLOW PORSCHEPHILE, COME SPEND AN HOUR TO DECOMPRESS AND HAVE AN ICE COLD BREW WITH AN HCR MEMBER!

For November, we'll be gathering on Thursday November 18 at HopSquad Brewery in North Austin from 5;30 PM – 7:30 PM.  HopSquad is located at 2307 Kramer Lane in Austin.  The website for the brewery is www.hopsquad.com.

The brewery has both indoor and outdoor seating and hosts a Mexican food truck, Botanita Tres Reyes.  Guests are also allowed to bring their own food or snacks.  Aside from parking in their lot, additional parking is available at the lot across the street at Circle Brewing Company.  Street parking is also available on Beatrice Cove and Brockton Drive.  No pre-registration is required.  Greg looks forward to seeing you and if needed, can be contacted at (703)-477-1649.

Nov 20: Petrol Lounge/HCR New Members’ Social, presented by XPEL Austin

Petrol Lounge will host this event at their new location at 2631 Kramer Lane in Austin. It’s bigger and waaaay better than their former location, with lots more cool cars. XPel Austin is providing the food, and it’s fajitas! The HCR Board is also providing the drinks. This event is for all members, and especially our members who joined us in 2021. But everyone is invited. This is an indoor event.

Please note attendance is capped at 75 people, and there will be a NON-refundable $10.00 per person administration fee at registration, to help defer the cost of tables, chairs, and table cloths.

Registration and $10 administrative fee payment required.

Dec 4: Hill Country Scavenger Hunt Drive

Stacey and Rich Soule have organized a pretty swell family-friendly scavenger hunt set for Saturday, December 4! Best part: you get to drive your P-Car to hunt for the scavenger items! Hint: you need a tech-savvy navigator for this event, plus a cell phone with camera to decode the clues, solve the riddles, and report your team’s finds. This is not a race or a timed event, so it’s a great time for a family road-trip while the kids decipher clues in the backseat (it’s better than hearing “Are we there yet?” over and over).

UPDATE: The hunt now includes two options: one for our puzzle-crazy members, and another “Scavenger Hunt Lite” version for our members who are new to the area or just want a more relaxed (read “easier”) way to enjoy the fun. You choose how to complete this un-timed event.

Also, our end spot for lunch in Bee Cave is offering a nice discount to our group, so don’t get lost on the way and let’s have fun and some great food!

Registration and $10 administrative fee payment required.

Dec 10: Holiday Party!!

And, now Ladies and Gentlemen, back to our regularly scheduled programming!

The HCR Holiday Party is quickly approaching! Break out your holiday cocktail attire and join us for some fabulous food and a chance to win some prizes, all in the name of charity! We'll be at the Hills of Lakeway Country Club (26 Club Estates Pkwy ATX) on Friday, December 10th.

6-7: Social Hour (Arrival, cash/credit bars open, and hors d'oeuvres served)

7-8: Served Buffet (Beef Filet, Bourbon Chicken, or Grilled Salmon)

8-9: Charity Raffle and Silent Auction

Tickets are $70 per person and we ask that you bring an unwrapped, unused toy for the Lakeway Police Toys for Tots program. Raffle tickets will be available at the door for $5 per ticket or 5 for $20. This year we'll be donating 100% of the proceeds to Texas Burn Survivors.

Dec 11: Sim Driving Catered Lunch and Tech Session at Porsche Austin

These are two separate, but associated, events at Porsche Austin on the same date!

First, we have a catered lunch by XSPACE, from 12:00pm-1:30pm. The purpose of the lunch is to introduce potential Sim Drivers to ways to start Sim Driving, and for existing Sim Drivers to network over lunch. Topics include computer hardware, iRacing platform, leagues, and chalk talk about tracks and cars. Recognition is included for the drivers who participated in the recent 8-event HCR series, with awards starting at 1:00pm. PLEASE NOTE: This is a separate event from the Tech Session, so if you would like to attend both events, please register for each one separately. We will have 30 minutes between both events for transition time.

Second, we have the Tech Session at Porsche Austin! The re-scheduled tech session for Hill County will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Porsche Austin will provide snacks, drinks, and door prizes.

A trio topics will be covered:
(1) an overview of popular options currently available;
(2) an illumination of the Porsche PDK dual-clutch transmission; and
(3) the history surrounding some dealer exclusive classic models.

The event is now open and attendance is capped at 60 participants, with a non-refundable $10 administrative fee per attendee. Before the event, attendees will be divided into three groups (A, B, & C) to rotate through the presentations.

If registration exceeds 60, Stacey will run a waitlist. Waivers will be required, and attendance cannot be confirmed until you verify your signature for the waiver through ClubReg.

Looking Back

Nov 3: Ladies Lunch

Ladies Lunch last week had good attendance at True Food Kitchen in the Domain. I’ve figured out why the ladies like these lunches so much:

  1. Michelle always selects up-scale restaurants for the ladies, and
  2. Conversations almost always DON’T include car talk!

Nov 6: GT International Fall Car Show

This year’s car show at GT International was their best ever! There was plenty of music, food, drinks and fun! Best of all, we totally filled up their back lot, with an estimated 100+ cars from Porsche, BMW, and Audi clubs. Of course, Porsche cars ruled the day. There were prizes for our club’s People’s Choice, and one lucky member walked away with a new Premium-level membership at GT International!

Our objective continues to be to keep our membership up to date on what is going on in HCR, as well as PCA nationally. Please remember, our goal is to deliver events where members can choose their level of participation. We will continue to stress safe and fun events!

If any questions or comments, please let me know.
