SPECIAL MESSAGES
On Monday, March 14, several Board members, Event Coordinators and I drove down to New Braunfels to hand-deliver our $4,000 donation from HCR to the Texas Burn Survivors Society. We met at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch, which is where TBSS will host a shortened summer camp for burn survivors this summer. Thanks to Kent Ketterman and Chris McChesney for organizing the meet-up with the TBSS Board members and volunteers, and thanks to Bruce Harris and Tuffy von Briesen for joining all of us in delivering the donation. As a reminder, our donation is generated from raffles, silent auctions, and parade laps at our HPDEs.
Also, check out our outstanding submission in the “From The Regions” section in the current edition of Panorama magazine (p. 102). It's posted on our HCR facebook page as well. Many thanks to Tom Emr for doing a great job keeping HCR activities spotlighted in Panorama, as he makes a submission every month (we are never guaranteed a spot in the final print edition, though).
We have some open Event Coordinator positions. If anyone has an interest in these or other roles, please email Carl Rossi:
- Distinguished Speaker Series (easy job with lots of support in place)
- Autocross Safety (easy, formality, need to attend the event)
- Tire Rack Street Survival (lots of support already in place)
- Webmaster (easy, babysitting job)
NEW and UPDATE events are highlighted below.
REMINDER: To locate events, details, and registration information, please go to our HCR Calendar and you can find these events there with registration links.

Great beer and wine selection along with good food. If the weather is nice, the outdoor seating is amazing with large heritage trees to sit under. Inside, there is a semi-private room and a large beer hall. There is a 300m-long dirt road leading into the brewery. It is pretty smooth and easily can be handled by any Porsche.

April 2: Texas Ramps Charitable Event
8:00am – noon-ish
Come join your fellow HCR members on April 2 as we support our new charity for 2022: The Texas Ramp Project. The charity has built more than 100 miles of wheelchair ramps for those in need in the Austin area, and we will help them continue this worthy endeavor.
The build project will be at a location in Bastrop county, and the project is expected to take 4 – 6 hours, beginning at 8am. Coffee and donuts will be on hand to help kick things off. Lunch will be provided as well.
Ramp sections are built in advance offsite by the charity. We come in on the day and assemble the sections into a complete ramp. In addition to tying the sections together, we’ll add wheelchair guides, uprights for handrails and the handrails. A TR build captain will be with us full time to make sure all goes well.
Registrants will be asked in ClubReg if they can bring a cordless drill/screwdriver. (All the ramp connections are made with wood screws.) Additional tools will be available onsite.
A good crew size for a typical ramp is about 15 so we’re looking for at least 15 volunteers to join us on April 2 and we still have openings! No experience required!! Come join us!!
Registration required and can be accessed through the HCR Calendar.

April 9: Tech Session at Caliber Collision on Metric
9:00am – noon
If you had a tough winter and your nice P-car got some road rash or maybe a dent from some unwitting driver in a Jeep or a Honda, or that curb or fence post jumped out in front of you, well we have the solution.
It’s time to go visit Caliber Collision on Metric, and see why they are one of only two body shops in Austin certified by Porsche to work on our P-Cars. This is the location that Porsche Austin sends cars to for body repairs. We held a tech session there a couple of years ago and it was a major hit! (pun intended).
We will have the usual breakfast tacos and coffee for participants. $10 registration fee required. Additional details and registration link is on the HCR Calendar.

May 7: Spring Scavenger Hunt Rally
Partner with friends and family for a Hill-Country Spring Scavenger Hunt Drive on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This hunt comes to you courtesy of Charlie, Ava, and Ella Pitkin, who enjoyed our winter hunt so much they were inspired to create this one.
A tech-savvy team member who can serve as a navigator is required. And cellular technology (with a camera) will be needed to decode the clues, solve the riddles, and report your team’s finds.
The hunt includes two options: one for our puzzle-crazy members, and another-“Scavenger Hunt Lite”-for our members who are new to the area or just want a more relaxed way to enjoy the fun. You chose how to complete this un-timed event.
This event will be limited to 22 vehicles. Available vehicle seating will limit the number of persons per team.
WAIVER AND NON-REFUNDABLE $10 FEE REQUIRED FOR CONFIRMATION
Details and registration link are on the HCR Calendar.
May 14: GT International Spring Car Show (note new date)

Mar 17: Hoppy Hour Brewery Visit – Celis Brewery
3rd Thursday monthly, 5:30pm
Hoppy Hour this past week was another nice event at a local brewery, complete with a biergarten and the world famous Cousins Lobster Roll food truck from Shark Tank. (Yes, the lobster bites and lobster quesadilla were excellent!)
Mar 19: “Octoberfest in March” Tour to Walburg
We had an excellent turnout yesterday for our tour out to the NE of Austin. We had about 45 cars and 60 participants! Fantastic roads, some nice twists and esses, and we all ended up at the Walburg German Restaurant for a very full buffet for under $20. Seriously, you didn’t need dinner after that lunch! I received tons of compliments from attendees, and our tour team is now scheming on our upcoming Bluebonnet Tour!
NON-HCR Events
Longhorn Region announces their annual Fiesta Challenge, set for April 9-10. All proceeds are for charity. The feature event is a 4-person golf scramble on the 10th with an entry fee of $85. More information, events, and registration can be found at ClubRegistration.net.
Also, for those of you planning to do Boxtoberfest this year, the dates are Sept 9-11 in Fredericksburg. The Longhorn Region also puts on this event, and the host hotel is the Hanger Hotel. I have no other details at this time, but if you think you might want to attend, I suggest making your hotel reservations soon, as the hotel typically sells out for this event.
Our objective continues to be to keep our membership up to date on what is going on in HCR, as well as PCA nationally. Please remember, our goal is to deliver events where members can choose their level of participation. We will continue to stress safe and fun events!
If any questions or comments, please let me know.
