NEW: Remembering Danny McCraw

Many of you may remember Danny McCraw at Porsche Austin. Danny was the shop foreman for Porsche Austin at the old location on Huntland Drive, and capped a 47-year career with Porsche in 2020, having earned his credentials as one of the highest-ranked master technicians for Porsche in the southern U.S. In December 2020, Danny was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and his last day on Earth was September 7th, at age 68.

Danny’s family has established a GoFundMe account to cover cremation and burial costs. If anyone would like to donate to the fund, or learn more about Danny, go here.

NEW: Photo Request!

We are in the midst of updating/upgrading our website, and we need updated event photos. This is a call out to our members to send us your event photos from the last couple of years. Please no duplicates, and we need high resolution photos. Any event, doesn’t matter, just photos of interest. Also send any of your car photos, as we will post those in a special area for members’ car photo.

Photos may be sent to a special Google Drive here: HCR Photos

The password is: “HillCountryPCA”.

After you post the pictures, please email Bill@hcrpca.org with a short description of the event and/or car model and year.

Sept 25: Tech Session at Porsche Austin

This event has been postponed to a later date, due to our moratorium on indoor events at this time. Stay tuned for a rescheduled date.

Oct 10: Porsche / Ferrari Car Show and Concours

Porsche vs. Ferrari! OK, it’s a Car Show and Concours, not LeMans. But still, we want a big showing of support for our favorite beloved marque, Porsche! HCR member John Brindley has been planning the day in earnest with his Ferrari counterpart, and the venue is none other than Moorespeed.

The date is Sunday, October 10. It looks like we will have the show on the grassy field in front of Moorespeed, and the plans include several classes of entries. Entry fee is $25 to enter the Concours. We have room for more P-Cars in the judged event…it’s not Pebble Beach…yes, your car is good enough for “Top Side” judging…exterior and interior only, just no wheel wells, trunk, engine compartment, or undercarriage! John promises to have some really cool award trophies, too! Plus food trucks, refreshments, etc.

Oct 16: Cars, Coffee and Croissants

The date is Saturday, October 16 and the location is Mozart’s Coffee Roasters at 3825 Lake Austin Blvd. The event runs from 9am-noon. We will have a 40-car Porsche Corral out in front, with another parking lot available for overflow parking. We need the Corral filled up with P-Cars throughout the event, so registration will be needed.

Oct 23-24: Overnight Tour to Rockport!!

Well, here it is…we’ve discussed doing an overnighter for a long time, and Chris has cleared the decks and set the destination: Rockport! We will take different routes there and back. Plenty of time upon arrival for sightseeing. Dinner on Saturday and Brunch on Sunday promises to be excellent. Our limit is 10 rooms at the Lighthouse Inn hotel, and 6 are already taken.

Oct 30: Tour to Belton and Beyond

On Saturday, October 30, our newest Tourmaster, Ken Kalin, has a big route planned for us to the north and east, on roads I bet you haven’t been on, and that finishes in Belton, with an optional lunch.

Nov 6: GT International Fall Car Show

It’s time again for the annual Fall classic, the GT International Car Show! This year’s car show is on Saturday, November 6 from 10:00am – 2:00pm. There will be live music, food and fun! Porsche corral included.

Nov 13: Fall Autocross

Our Fall Autocross is on Saturday, November 13 at the HEB Center in Cedar Park. At the last Autocross, we had a bunch of individuals from outside of PCA that joined us. While this is great from a financial perspective, our goal is to fill up the 60-person roster with PCA members. This event is now open to the public, and will fill up quickly, so don’t delay.

Nov 20: Petrol Lounge/HCR New Members’ Social, presented by XPEL Austin

Petrol Lounge will host this event at their new location at 2631 Kramer Lane in Austin. It’s bigger and waaaay better than their former location, with lots more cool cars. This event is for all members, and especially our members who joined us in 2021. But everyone is invited.

Please note attendance is capped at 75 people, and there will be a NON-refundable $10.00 per person administration fee at registration, to help defer the cost of tables, chairs, and table cloths.

Dec 4: Hill Country Scavenger Hunt Drive

Stacey and Rich Soule have organized a pretty swell scavenger hunt set for Saturday, December 4! Best part: you get to drive your P-Car to hunt for the scavenger items! Hint: you really need a navigator for this event.

Dec 10: Holiday Party

Our Annual Holiday Party is on the calendar again, on Friday evening, December 10. We are back out at the Village of The Hills Lakeway clubhouse, and it promises to be another great evening of fun, prizes, raffles, silent auction items, awards, and general frivolity. Once again, we ask each couple attending to bring an unused, unwrapped children’s gift to donate to Toys for Tots program with the Lakeway Police Dept.

Looking Back

Sept 18: Tour to Kent Black’s BBQ in New Braunfels

We had a very nice turnout on Saturday for our drive down south to grab some great BBQ at Kent Black’s in New Braunfels (a Horizons advertiser). We gathered up in the front parking lot of Seton Ascension Hospital in Oak Hill. Porsche Austin delivered two Techs (Gio and Daniel) to run with us, and we are glad they came along! We had a member experience a transmission temp sensor overheat, and his Panamera shut down on a twisty 2-lane blacktop. The P.A. team came to the rescue, and they got his car sorted out and the sensor code cleared, and the member jumped back into the drive. Crisis avoided! Chris McChesney posted some pictures on Facebook.

Our objective continues to be to keep our membership up to date on what is going on in HCR, as well as PCA nationally. Please remember, our goal is to deliver events that allow you to participate safely, and to ensure you have fun!
