PCA growth continues apace with over 98K primary members and 150K+ total members. Zone 5 is helping lead the pack with the Maverick region leading in the category of actual growth, and the Rio Grande Valley region leading the factored growth. Way to go, and keep up the good work!
Some of you may ask what is the Rio Grande Valley region. It is the new name of the Coastal Bend region. The name was changed to better represent its membership. That growth is a direct reflection of the leadership in the region reaching out to Porsche owners in the area and bringing them into PCA.
Speaking of leadership- PCA and Zone 5 lost a great one recently with the passing of Robert (Bob) Miller. Bob was a 60-year member of PCA- former PCA President, Bill Scholar Award winner, Zone rep, region officer, etc. He helped lead Tech Tactics, and made it one of the premier Porsche events in the country for many years. Bob was very charming, and super successful in getting volunteers, because it was hard to say no to someone that was so nice, and gave so much himself. He will be greatly missed.
There are a couple of large Porsche events held in the Zone every year. Boxstoberfest on the second weekend in Sept, and Palooza on the second weekend in Nov. Boxstoberfest was very successful this year with over 100 cars cruising around the Texas hill country. In its 25th year, is a fun event that drew participants from all across the zone. The granddaddy of Porsche events is the PCA Palooza held in Eureka Springs. This is one of my favorite Porsche events in the country as it is a low key, non-commercial party with great roads, cars and people. I know I will see a lot of you there this year!
At the National level, PCA continues to deliver value to its membership by putting on great events both by itself, and in partnership with Porsche. National events continue to draw large and growing participation and provide a great time for participants. Werks Reunion, Sportscar Together Festival, Treffens, Parades, and the upcoming Rennsport Reunion VII. These are all great events, and definitely worth considering. Ask folks that have attended them in your region the ins and outs of registering and attending for tips on how to make your experience that much better. Events like Rennsport Reunion require planning a year out, so don’t delay if you want to attend. Parades and Treffens sell out quickly, but you can get in with the right planning. Your region leadership can also help provide advice on how to attend.
There is so much going on in PCA, in your region, across the Zone, and across the country. I hope you are getting the opportunity to get out and experience the nationwide community that is PCA.
See you out on the road.
Chuck Bush
Zone 5 Rep.
